Seven North Pole helpers

Meet Santa's elves

Santa's elves are the seven helpers who pop up in Santa's replies in the Santa Wishlist app: Pepper, Jingle, Snowdrop, Fig, Tinsel, Nutmeg and Bramble. Each one has a steady personality, so your kid knows them the moment they show up. Here is who they are and what they are like.

Tap an elf to read their story

Pepper, a freckled elf with a ginger tuft, a red pom-pom hat and a sideways grin, peeking in from the edge

The prankster toy tester

Pepper

Pepper tests every toy before it goes on the sleigh, and his methods are not in the manual. He once tested a drum by wearing it as a hat, and a bouncy ball by chasing it down three hallways. His rule is simple: a good toy must survive a giggle. If a toy makes Pepper laugh until he gets the hiccups, it earns the workshop's top stamp.

"I tested it. By wearing it as a hat. It works great as a hat."

Signature move: Testing a toy in the silliest way possible

Jingle, a smiling elf in a green hat with a gold bell and a red scarf, waving hello

The cheerful head elf

Jingle

Jingle has run the workshop longer than anyone can remember. He keeps the schedule, hands out the jobs and rings the gold bell on his hat to start every shift. He gets so excited about each new wish that he rhymes without meaning to. The other elves stopped pointing it out years ago. Now they just clap along.

"A train, you say? We'll make it today, and wrap it up in a bow, hooray!"

Signature move: Rhyming by accident

Snowdrop, an elf with two dark braids and a frost blue hat, sitting cross-legged and reading a picture book

The shy, gentle elf

Snowdrop

Snowdrop is the quietest elf at the North Pole and the one who notices the most. She sees who held the door, who shared a snack and who tucked in a little brother. She keeps a small notebook of kind things, drawn in pictures so nothing gets lost. When something big or a little scary comes up, Snowdrop sits down beside you and speaks softly until it feels smaller.

"(Psst. I saw you share your cookie today. That was lovely.)"

Signature move: A whispered kindness

Fig, a sleepy elf in a gold hat and a cream apron with a dab of flour on his cheek, hugging a giant candy cane

The sleepy baker

Fig

Fig runs the North Pole bakery and has never quite finished waking up. He yawns between sentences and talks very, very slowly, so every word sounds like a warm blanket. His gingerbread is famous. Nobody knows how he makes it half asleep, but the other elves suspect the dough is helping.

"That... sounds... wonderful. I will make a note... right after... a cookie. Yawn."

Signature move: A very slow yawn

Tinsel, an elf in a cranberry hat with a gold star and a shimmering tinsel scarf, striking a grand stage pose

The dramatic show-off

Tinsel

Tinsel believes every moment deserves an audience. She announces the morning cocoa. She introduces the snowflakes. When a new wish reaches the workshop she climbs on a crate, takes a deep breath and presents it to the whole room like the finale of a show. The elves always cheer. Tinsel always bows. Then she asks the reindeer for a drum roll, and they do their best.

"Ladies, gentlemen and reindeer! Presenting the BEST toy idea of the whole day!"

Signature move: The grand announcement

Nutmeg, an elf in a brown knit hat and a green scarf, standing with a baby reindeer and holding a red apple

The reindeer stable elf

Nutmeg

Nutmeg looks after the reindeer stable and speaks fluent reindeer. The reindeer have opinions about everything, from the weather to the snacks to the best toys, and Nutmeg translates every one with a perfectly straight face. Nobody has ever checked the translations. Every elf secretly believes them anyway.

"Comet says that is a five apple idea. Comet said it very loudly. I am translating."

Signature move: Translating the reindeer

Bramble, an older elf with a bushy white mustache, brass goggles on a patched green hat and a tool apron, arms crossed, with a gold wind-up bird on his shoulder

The grumpy sounding inventor

Bramble

Bramble is the oldest inventor at the North Pole and the grumpiest sounding by a mile. He never says an idea is good. He just starts building, usually before you finish asking. His workshop is full of half-finished marvels and a gold wind-up bird named Cog who chirps approval from his shoulder. Under all the grumbling, Bramble is the softest elf of all.

"Hmph. It is nothing special. ...I already started building one. Do not tell anyone."

Signature move: The grumble that means yes

How do the elves show up in Santa's replies?

Now and then, Santa brings one of the elves into a reply. Each elf always sounds like themselves, and the app tries not to bring up the same elf twice in a row, so your kid meets a different helper each time. While that happens, the elves quietly save the toys your kid shows Santa to a gift list that only you can open. See how the app works and how the secret list stays private.
